If you bought a Roblox item through an outside store like Apple’s App Store, Google Play, or a third-party gift card vendor and now want your money back, you’re not alone. These purchases don’t go through Roblox directly, so the refund process is different. And if you skip a step or contact the wrong place, you might wait weeks for nothing.
Why can’t Roblox just refund my external purchase?
Roblox doesn’t handle payments made outside their official website or app. That means if you used iTunes, Google Pay, Amazon, or even a retail gift card bought at Target or Walmart, the money went to that platform not Roblox. So Roblox support can’t issue refunds for those transactions. You’ll need to go back to where the payment actually happened.
What counts as an “external store” purchase?
Here are common examples:
- You bought Robux using your Apple ID on an iPad
- You used Google Play balance on your Android phone
- You redeemed a physical gift card from Best Buy or GameStop
- You paid through a console store like Xbox or PlayStation
If any of these sound familiar, your refund request must start with the payment provider not Roblox.
Step-by-step: How to ask for your money back
First, figure out where you spent the money. Then follow the right path:
If you used Apple (iPhone, iPad, Mac)
Go to reportaproblem.apple.com, sign in with your Apple ID, find the Roblox charge, and tap “Report” or “Request Refund.” Apple usually responds within 48 hours. Be honest if it was accidental or unauthorized, say so.
If you used Google Play (Android, Chromebook)
Open the Google Play app, tap your profile, go to “Payments & subscriptions,” then “Order History.” Find the Roblox purchase, tap “Report a problem,” and choose “I didn’t mean to buy this” or “It was bought without my permission.” Google sometimes auto-refunds within minutes for recent purchases.
If you used a gift card or retail code
Roblox won’t refund gift card redemptions even if the item wasn’t what you expected. But if someone else used your card without permission, check our guide on what to do if someone else charged your account. It includes steps for reporting fraud and locking down your account.
If you bought through Xbox, PlayStation, or Nintendo
Each console has its own refund policy. Xbox rarely gives refunds unless it’s a technical error. PlayStation requires you to contact support directly. Nintendo only refunds unopened digital content which doesn’t include Robux or items. Save yourself time: read their policies before asking.
Common mistakes that get refunds denied
- Asking Roblox first. They’ll redirect you wasting days.
- Waiting too long. Apple and Google often only allow refund requests within 14 days.
- Being vague. Say exactly what went wrong: “My child tapped by accident,” or “I was charged twice.”
- Not checking family sharing settings. If a kid used your shared Apple ID, turn off in-app purchases next time. See our tips for parents managing purchases.
What if the store says no?
Sometimes, especially with gift cards or older purchases, the platform will refuse. In those cases, your only option may be contacting your bank or credit card company to dispute the charge. We have a ready-to-use form that walks you through wording the dispute correctly many banks require specific language to approve these claims.
Can I get the item back instead of money?
Usually not. Once Robux is spent on an item, it’s final even if the original Robux came from a refunded transaction. The only exception is if Roblox reverses the purchase themselves due to a bug or exploit, which is rare. Don’t count on it.
Quick checklist before you submit your request
- Know exactly where the money came from (Apple, Google, gift card, etc.)
- Have the date, amount, and receipt ready
- Write a short, clear reason avoid emotional language
- Submit within 14 days if possible
- If denied, move to your bank or card issuer next
